Canada’s Senate votes to change national anthem to be gender neutral
The Canadian Senate has passed a bill to make the national anthem gender neutral.
The bill proposed changing the words in the English version of the anthem from “in all thy sons command” to “in all of us command”.
Dr Michelle Smith, Senior Lecturer in Literary Studies at Monash University, told Tom Elliott the original version was very gender specific.
“It’s getting to the point where if politically we leave women out of descriptions.. it isn’t really part of encouraging half our population to be part of politics,” she said.
