A Canadian conman who tricked an elderly couple into carrying ice worth almost $12 million into Australia has been deported.

Farbod Ahmadi was a member of the crime syndicate that set up a fake internet competition.

The prize was two return tickets to Canada, a week’s accommodation and new luggage.

The drugs were in the new luggage.

The couple became suspicious about the weight of their luggage and alerted authorities.

Ahmadi was jailed for a maximum of nine years but recently completed his five-year minimum term.

He’s been deported.

Keith Moor from The Herald Sun spoke with Ross and John about the scam on Thursday.
