It’s been revealed the Andrews Government incorrectly assumed it would receive more than $200 million in federal funding before it successfully secured the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

On Saturday, Daniel Andrews revealed taxpayers will foot a $380 million bill for cancelling the event.

But the true cost of the cancelled Commonwealth Games will be much higher.

“That doesn’t include any money we’ve spent so far, that doesn’t include whatever we paid initially to have exclusive rights to put a bid in for it, it doesn’t include any money going forward for redundancy payments for staff, that sort of thing. It will end up being a lot more,” 9News reporter Heidi Murphy told Ross and Russel.
