Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has claimed the nation should be awarded a public holiday if the Matildas won the Women’s World Cup, sparking anger among small businesses.

Executive Director of Small Business Australia, Bill Lang, says the majority of businesses in general simply just “can’t afford” another public holiday.

Mr Lang claims small businesses are still having an “ongoing significant crisis” and are “very much heading in the wrong direction”.

“Every employee would love to get it, but please don’t ask small business families to actually pay for it,” Mr Lang told Ross and Russel.
