Can’t dance?

Blame your parents.

Having good rhythm and being able to move in time to the beat is at least in part explained by our genes, Australian and international researchers have found.

Researchers have identified 69 different genetic variants linked with the ability to keep in time to a beat.

But research assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr Daniel Gustavson, says environment also plays a big role.

“Our study is just trying to identify some specific genes that might also relate to predict somebody’s ability to clap to a beat, or play musical instruments, or whatever,” he told Ross and Russel.

“There are definitely genes that influence our biological rhythm.”
