A car has been completely crushed by a train at Surrey Hills station, killing two people on Wednesday.

Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan says the government may consider expanding it’s level crossing removal program, following the fatal crash.

Two women died after their car was hit by a train at Union Road.

Felicity rang Tom Elliott to tell him about the shocking incident.

The car was pushed some 100 metres from a rail crossing into a station platform.

The shocking smash saw both the Belgrave and Lilydale train lines suspended.

Metro Trains has already confirmed it would be carrying out a full investigation.
