Car fire stops the Eastern Freeway
A spectacular car fire has halted traffic on the Eastern Freeway.
The accident has happened in-bound, just past Blackburn Road.
It’s believed three cars were involved in a crash, and two cars burst into flames.
There were initial fears one occupant was trapped, but firefighters have confirmed to 3AW News that all drivers and passengers escaped without serious injuries.
Traffic is extremely heavy in the area – both inbound and outbound – as up to 95,000 people flock to the MCG for the Dreamtime at the G’ match between Richmond and Essendon.
The Eastern Fwy at Blackburn Rd in both directions.
VicRoads says traffic is diverted onto Blackburn Rd for outbound traffic and inbound traffic is being diverted onto Springvale Rd.
They say an alternate route is the Maroondah Hwy and Doncaster Rd.
