Teammates of a cyclist badly injured in a hit-run accident in Carlton on Thursday say there’s no doubt the driver knows what they did.

University student Connor Murtagh, 22, was riding north on Lygon Street and was crossing the intersection of Lytton Street when he was hit by a VW Jetta sedan about 6.50pm.

‘He’s not good,’ cycling teammate Ton Reynolds from Charter Mason Racing told Tom Elliott.

He believes Connor has suffered two spinal fractures.

‘He’s in a lot of pain.’

Mr Reynolds urged the driver to come forward.

‘The driver clearly knew he hit someone because (Connor) went across the bonnet,’ he said.

‘And then, without waiting, he drove off.

‘Just come forward, because the situation’s not going to get better.’
