Caro’s take on AFL Women’s pay dispute

The AFL Women’s competition which will commence in February next year is currently making headlines due to a pay dispute.

In the league’s inaugural year the top two players for each team will be getting $25,000 for the eight-week season.

However the minimum earn for the competition is $5,000, which is seen to be not enough by the AFLPA.

?Caroline Wilson says she is ‘sick of hearing’ men weigh into the issue and believes the minimum earn should be higher.

‘I think that the bigger name players are getting a really good deal,’ Wilson told Sports Today.

‘I’m concerned that perhaps the lesser name players that are going to be doing a lot of work could maybe get a bit more.’

Geelong captain Joel Selwood supports the initial pay amount and he said this week that the league must start somewhere, which Sports Today host Gerard Healy supports.

‘Surely they are in love with this opportunity to play AFL Football,’ Healy said.

‘You’ve got to have a starting point, at the moment there’s no income that overrides the pay.’
