Caroline Wilson questions Gary Ablett’s leadership skills on Sportsday
Caroline Wilson says Gary Ablett’s decision to appear on The Footy Show this week ‘for money’ is symptomatic of his stint at the Gold Coast Suns.
The leading football journalist said Ablett had continually shown poor leadership while at the club.
The two-time Brownlow medallist is widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season and return to Geelong.
Speaking on 3AW, Wilson said Ablett’s behaviour at a struggling club was in stark contrast to that of Nat Fyfe.
The new Fremantle captain got on the front foot at a media conference this week, despite the Dockers’ poor start to 2017.
‘It was in stark contrast to Gary Ablett’s decision, yet again, to not give a general interview or to a newspaper journalist but go to The Footy Show for money,’ she said on Sportsday.
‘I know there are some very good journalists at The Footy Show, Craig Hutchison and Rebecca Maddern among them, but that doesn’t mean it’s not disappointing.
‘I know he’s not captain any more, but it’s symptomatic of the way Gary has been over the last few years.
‘He has not been a good leader of that football club.’
