Casey Council branded ‘racist’ after rejecting Narre Warren mosque
The Casey Council is being labelled ‘racist’ after it rejected a proposal for a mosque in Narre Warren.
Hundreds of people protested outside Tuesday night’s council meeting – chanting ‘stop the racism’ – as councillors voted to block the mosque due to its height, bulk and prominence.
Councillor Rosalie Crestani says 9 out of 10 people she speaks to in the street are concerned about Muslims living in the area, but she insists the decision was based on planning guidelines.
‘It’s nothing to do with the colour of ones skin,’ she said.
‘In fact, people were there objecting the mosque who had a different colour skin.
‘It’s not about racism.’
