Changes to finals fixture ‘absolutely on the horizon’ according to AFL CEO
Andrew Dillon says the AFL will look to alter finals fixturing ahead of the league expanding to 19 teams in 2028.
The AFL CEO confirmed on the Eddie and Jimmy podcast that a potential wildcard weekend is being looked at as part of several reforms as the league looks to introduce more meaningful matches into the season.

“(Changes to the finals fixture) is absolutely on the horizon with Tasmania coming in 2028,” he told Eddie McGuire and Jimmy Bartel.
“Knowing how much the fans care about games of consequence, it’s up to us to have a look (at a wildcard round).”
