Charities issued stark warning over blindly accepting SRL grants

A former Labor minister has issued a stark warning to charities taking government money in exchange for not publicly criticising the Suburban Rail Loop.
The Age revealed on Tuesday that charities and sporting bodies have signed non-disclosure agreements, in exchange for Suburban Rail Loop grant money.
Gary Johns, who has also worked in the charity space, says not-for-profit organisations should be wary of blindly accepting grants.

“The general rule is don’t take money if you’re told to be silent about the consequences,” he said on 3AW Drive.
“It’s a risk that charities and other organisations should not take.”
