Charlie Bezzina: Massive influx in Victoria Police numbers needed
Former Homicide Squad Detective Charlie Bezzina says Victoria Police needs a “massive influx” in numbers and support from the courts for the community to feel safe again.
He told 3AW Afternoons the job has changed dramatically since his days.
“It’s a whole new world of policing,” he said.
“The poor old police have to leave their hands in their pockets.”

Charlie said when he was running the Armed Robbery taskforce in Footscray in 2009, he tried to combat the issue of gang violence by outnumbering the offenders.
“My theory was if there’s ten of them, there’s 20 of us,” he said.
“I wanted them to be fearful of us, at the moment we’re fearful of them, we need to turn that around by a massive influx of police, and support from the judiciary and the government.”
