Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton admits he understands the no confidence vote about to be levelled against him, confirming he’s seeking a second term in the top job.

Police members have begun to vote on a no confidence motion, which could see him vacate the role if succesful.

Mr Patton told Tom Elliott that “it hurts” to see the level of angst in the force, but hopes to continues on as Chief Commissioner.

“My appointment is up midyear and there’s no secret that I want to go around again,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“There is a vote…and I get it. They’re frustrated about a range of things.”

He also provided an update on the ongoing investigation into a Ripponlea synangoue being firebombed in December.
