Chief Commissioner and Union boss to walk 1000km to raise funds for officers’ mental health
The heads of Victoria Police and the Police Association are getting together for a first-of-its-kind fundraiser, to highlight the ongoing battle many retired officers face with mental health.
The pair are aiming to raise $500,000 by walking 1000km across Victoria in October.
Commissioner Ashton told Neil Mitchell there wouldn’t be many officers who haven’t been directly affected by suicide, himself included.
“Unfortunately I have, close friends in fact,” he said.
“I’m sure most police officers would be in the same boat.
“You scratch your head and think, ‘what did you miss, what could you have done?'”
