Chief economist’s warning ahead of interest rates announcement

The Reserve Bank of Australia will be under pressure to do something “more aggressive” with the country’s cash rate, the chief economist at AMP has warned.

Another interest rates rise is all but certain again today.

Shane Oliver told Neil Mitchell he expected the rise to be 40 basis points.

“All of the evidence, unfortunately, suggests the inflation numbers are getting worse, not better,” he said.
