Child in critical condition after being hit by a car

A child is in a critical condition after being struck by a car in Melbourne’s east.

The boy, 10, was crossing Springfield Road, Blackburn, at a crossing with two friends when he was hit shortly before 6.30 on Saturday evening.

Police say the children were crossing on the green light.

The boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The other two children were not injured.

The male driver stopped at the scene and was arrested by police. He has been questioned and released.
