Childcare workers demand significant pay rise ahead of 24-hour protest

Jacqui Felgate

Unions are pushing for childcare workers to be given pay rises of up to $15,000 a year.

They’ll protest the sector’s low pay, high workloads and dwindling staff numbers on September 7.

“It’s going to be really inconvenient for parents, but we are hoping that with a lot of warning and a lot of conversations between educators and parents over the next six weeks that hopefully it can be as smooth as possible,” Helen Gibbons, the United Workers Union’s director of early education, told Tom Elliott.
