Christmas beach trip ends in tragedy at Lorne

A young man has died and a second airlifted to hospital after a Christmas Day trip to the beach turned to tragedy at Lorne.

Police say three people got into difficulty while body surfing at Lorne at about 6pm last night.

The trio managed to make it to shore before collapsing.

An off-duty doctor, police and Surf Rescue members performed CPR and provided first aid before paramedics arrived.

But sadly, a 19-year-old St Albans man died at the scene.

A second male has been airlifted to hospital, while the third young man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
