Christmas tragedy: Two men drown on Phillip Island beach

Two men have drowned in a swimming tragedy at Phillip Island on Christmas eve.

Two men and a boy were swimming together at The Boulevard, Colonnade beach about 5.30pm when they found themselves in trouble.

The young boy managed to swim to the shore, but the emergency services were required to pull the two men from the surf.

Both men – aged 45 and 20 from Cranbourne East – died at the scene.

The local lifesaving club had issued a warning for dangerous swimming conditions.

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
