City Square covered in plants, effectively ending homeless protest

The Melbourne City Council has covered City Square in plants.

This has effectively ended a near month-long protest by Melbourne’s homeless.

The protesters, who have been sleeping rough there, have refused offers of emergency accommodation since May 12.

They were issued a voluntary move-on notice by the council on Monday afternoon.

On Tuesday, council workers began delivering plants covering much of the area where the protesters had been sleeping.
