Coast to Coast: Steve Harvey’s walk from Perth to Sale for the homeless
For the second time in a year, Steve Harvey found himself without a job and in danger of losing his home.
He’d been working in the mines in Western Australia when he looked set to lose his job again.
‘I didn’t want to get down, I wanted to do something proactive,’ he said.
That’s when he decided he’d walk from Perth to Sydney, for a ‘Coast to Coast Walk for the Homeless’ to raise money and awareness.

He told 3AW Afternoons fill-in host Darren James he’s had plenty of help along the way thanks to the generosity of strangers.
The plan was to raise enough money for 100 backpack beds, at a cost of $11,000.
‘The public has been absolutely amazing,’ he said.
When he spoke to Darren, he was in Sale and had already passed $13,000.
The beds will be distributed with the help of Swag for Homeless.
After the walk, Steve said he’d have to start all over again. For now, he’s battling the elements and a bit of soreness, but he’s so glad he decided to take it on.
‘This is something I can carry with me for the rest of my life.’
