A primary school in Melbourne’s north has caused a stir over a controversial mural created by students.

Children at Coburg North Primary School were made to plaster coloured paper hands on a brick wall with the message “sorry”.

Listener Joel sent the photos to 3AW Drive and said he would be furious if teachers made his children do this.

“I don’t think it’s a primary schools responsibility to make young children feel guilty,” he told Tom Elliott.

The school’s principal has told Tom it participates in activities and rituals such as “welcome to country” and smoking ceremonies.

The school has a Reconciliation Coordinator, who declined an invitation to appear on 3AW Drive.
