Why Coles threw out skip bins full of non-perishable goods
Coles in Chadstone has thrown out several skip bins full of non-perishable goods — including nappies, soft drink, toilet paper and firelighters.
The supermarket says it cannot donate the goods due to dust contamination with “very low levels of silica” detected.
“If you’ve got a sealed bag of dog food how does the dust get in there?,” Daniel, who captured footage of the skips, told Jacqui Felgate.

“Expert testing after the event showed the silica dust to be well below both the mandatory and recommended levels. Low concentration and brief exposures have negligible potential health effects,” Coles said in a statement.
