Collingwood great Tony Shaw says women should be able to play in the AFL against men.

He said ability should be the only thing that counted.

The 1990 premiership captain told Neil Mitchell he expected the women’s game to boom over the next 10 years.

‘I’ll tell you now, the women’s footy league will be one of the biggest sporting things in growth rate coming up in the next decade,’ Shaw said during his weekly spot on 3AW Mornings.

Neil Mitchell: ‘So, would you have a girl playing for Collingwood?

Tony Shaw: ‘No doubt. If they can play.’

Shaw also spoke about a range of issues, including what can be done to stop deaths on the road and the impact the passing of former teammate Darren Millane in a crash had on the club.
