Collingwood leading race to sign Matthew Kreuzer, says Sam ‘Scoop’ McClure

Collingwood is leading the race to pry Matthew Kreuzer away from Carlton, says Sam ‘Scoop’ McClure.

And it could potentially create a big problem for the AFL.

McClure said the Pies were set to offer Kreuzer more than $500,000 a season, a move which would all but guarantee the Blues pick No.2 in the national draft, given the compensation Melbourne received for James Frawley in similar circumstances last year.

It means the Brisbane Lions would slide down to pick No.3 and all but certainly miss out on one of Josh Schache or Jacob Weitering.

‘The AFL are extremely worried about this situation,’ McClure said on 3AW’s Sports Today.

In other news, Scoop revealed:

  • Melbourne, Essendon, West Coast and Fremantle were in the mix to land exiled Gold Coast Sun Harley Bennell.
  • Adam Treloar will tell Greater Western Sydney on Tuesday he wants to return to Victoria.
  • Carlton is poised to land GWS pair Lachie Plowman and Andrew Phillips during the trade period.
  • Lewis Jetta is all but certain to leave Sydney.
