Commuter chaos on Belgrave and Lilydale lines following level crossing removal
There was commuter chaos in Melbourne’s east on Monday, with several calling 3AW to say they were left stranded in the rain.
It follows the completion of level-crossing removal works on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines.
The works completed on Sunday, but ‘infrastructure issues’ meant the appropriate testing had not been done and trains could not run in the early hours of Monday morning.
But there were no buses to replace the trains.
Rodney said with no trains or replacement buses, he was forced to drive from Lilydale to Mitcham to Box Hill where the trams start.
‘What they said was the tracks had not been signed off yet,’ he explained.
At the weekend, Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan said 800 workers had worked hard over 41 days to have the level crossings removed.
