Commuter chaos: Vandals suspend two train lines for entire morning peak
Vandals have wreaked havoc for commuters returning to the city for the first time in months.
The Cranbourne and Pakenham lines have been suspended all morning, after foolish vandals cut about 300 cables, including power cables and communication cables, near Sandown Park.
Chris Miller from the Department of Transport says he’d guess “maybe they were trying to steal copper”.
Engineers and technicians are “going hell for leather to try and get going as quickly as possible”, but Mr Miller says the suspension is expected to continue for “a while”.
“We know there were a lot of people disrupted this morning and we do apologise for that,’ he said.
