Election season is fast approaching, but there is concern over the number of Australians who openly admit to not understanding how the preference voting system works.

“It is a complicated system, but it doesn’t need to be as complicated as most people think,” Evan Ekin-Smyth from the Australian Electoral Commission told Tom Elliott.

He reassured voters of one thing.

“It is always in the voter’s hands who they vote for,” he said.
