There are concerns about the long-term environmental impacts of single-use face masks.

More than three billion single-use masks were thrown out every day across the globe in 2020.

It’s unclear how bad that figure is in Australia.

Pip Kierman, chair of Clean Up Australia, pleaded with 3AW Drive listeners to do the right thing and dispose of them correctly.

“Everything you drop on the ground is likely to eventually end up in a waterway,” she said.
