The CFA has moved to allay fears about a planned burn near Lorne, with Tom Elliott receiving multiple reports from locals and tourists on Friday that fire crews were working “frantically” to contain the fires before Saturday’s scorcher across Victoria.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said there was no cause for concern and the situation was under control.

Neil was the first person to call, telling Tom Elliott there were “helicopters everywhere” in the area.

Strong winds are also forecast for Saturday.

James is camping at nearby Kennett River and echoed Neil’s sentiments.

“We are kind of preparing to have to evacuate tomorrow morning if the advice comes through,” he said.
