Victorian schools are in a state of confusion about air conditioning rules in the classroom due to COVID-19.

Many teachers have contacted Neil Mitchell telling him they’re not allowed to be used, to limit possible coronavirus spread, so kids are being left to swelter.

3AW Mornings received a copy of the Department of Education guidelines.

“No wonder the schools are confused,” Neil Mitchell said in response to reading it.

Education Minister James Merlino said on Thursday schools “can certainly use their air conditioning” but the guidance was to try and provide as much ventilation as possible.

Andrew Dalgleish, President of the Victorian Principals Association, said it had been a challenging time.

“The challenges keep coming for schools and schools are trying to adapt as best they can and ensure that classrooms are as comfortable as possible,” he said.

“And with the humidity and heat we’ve seen in the past few days, that’s been a challenge.”
