Confusion over parking fines on Surf Coast

A handful of people who copped parking fines in Torquay say they had no idea they weren’t allowed to park there.

And there were no signs saying they couldn’t, just a yellow line on the side of the road.

Rosemary told Neil Mitchell she had no idea that meant you couldn’t park there.

And several others who copped the $109 fine say the same.

When they asked council about why there were no signs on the side of the road, they were told council didn’t want to “litter” the street with signs and so wouldn’t be putting them there.
