Lidia Thorpe has been forced to resign as deputy leader of The Greens after she failed to disclose her relationship with a former bikie boss last year.

But Tom Elliott says she needs to quit politics completely.

Press PLAY below to hear Tom Elliott explain why

Senator Thorpe was serving on federal parliament’s law enforcement committee, which receives confidential briefings about organised crime, while dating Dean Martin in 2021.

“There is no insinuation or allegation here that she passed any information or confidential briefings on to her lover, the bikie boss, but you cannot sit on a law enforcement committee that deals with bikie gangs and organised crime and at the same time be conducting a relationship with the former head of the Rebels bikie gang,” Tom Elliott said on Thursday.

“It is a terrible, terrible look.

“The Greens love to criticise but when the blowtorch comes onto them, they turn to water.”

Greens leader Adam Bandt says Thorpe showed a “significant lack of judgement” by failing to disclose her relationship.

“I accept that I have made mistakes and have not exercised good judgement,” Senator Thorpe said in a statement.
