Coroner calls for suicide prevention barriers at CBD car parks
The coroner has recommended suicide prevention barriers be erected at publicly accessible high rise buildings in Melbourne’s CBD after a series of suicides at multi-level car parks.
3AW presenter Justin Smith wrote about workers being traumatised by the number of suicides from one particular car park earlier this year and explained the findings on 3AW Drive.
The coroner has recommended sweeping changes to the national construction code as well as giving more power to the state and local governments to erect barriers at buildings in the city considered to be suicide hot spots.
