One of the world’s leading food journalists has pulled back the curtains on a Greek restaurant in Melbourne’s south-east.

New York Times food editor Sam Sifton could have found one of the BEST souvlakis in Australia, located in Oakleigh.

Sifton said the pork souvlaki from ‘Kalimera Souvlaki Art’ left such an impression on him he was still thinking about it days later.

Sylvia Gabriel, co-owner of Kalimera, has told Neil Mitchell she was shocked when heard about the article.

“My husband, he’s a very very good chef,” she said.

“Best quality, so much love and passion, it’s authentic!”

Syliva said this souvlaki is her husband’s own special recipe and they don’t use lettuce because it’s too watery.

“The original is pork, always has and always will be. No lamb.”

No lamb!?

Looks like we’ve been making them wrong this whole time.
