Glen Eira City Council in Melbourne’s south east has made the decision to close down three early learning centres devastating parents.

Mayor of the Council, councillor Jim Magee, says a service review found while the quality of care was excellent, the centres were no longer fit for purpose.

“We have to get out there and we now have to start talking to both our staff, and the community, and family that use them as to where do we go next,” he told Jacqui Felgate.

A parent whose three year old attends one of the centres says they’ve been left devastated and scrambling to find alternatives.

Anna says she’s feels helpless for the staff at the centres.

“All the parents received an email from the mayor, just advising of the preliminary decision that has been made to close the centres,” she said.
