Council sinks plan for Yarra River public pool

Architect's plan for a swimming pool on Melbourne's Yarra River

A public pool on the Yarra River will not be part of the City of Melbourne’s $300m Greenline trail project.

The council has rejected a proposal for a series of pools and wetlands around Enterprize Park.

Felicity Watson, President of Yarra Swim Co, which came up with the pool plans, said the group “were very disappointed we’re not going to be included”.

“They looked at a range of things, like the budget that was available and the space that was available and thought that it wasn’t the right place for this particular project,” she told Ross and Russel.

“We’re hopeful we can look at other potential locations.”

Ms Watson says the group will continue to campaign to “make the Yarra swimmable again”.

The Greenline plan will be considered by councillors on Tuesday.
