A family is aiming to take a majority of Nillumbik council in Melbourne’s north.

Four members of the Klein family are running in the upcoming council elections, each in a separate ward.

If the four are all elected, this would give them a majority of the seven seats on the council.

But John Klein, whose wife Meralyn is already on the council and whose children Jaclyn and Mark are also running, said they’re not trying to control the council.

Mr Klein told Tom Elliott his children have their focus on different issues.

‘Job opportunities are obviously a big issue with that age category,’ he said.

But he said the family does unanimously agree that rates in the shire are too high.
