Council Watch: Whittlesea Council under fire for response to stray dog

COUNCIL WATCH
Whittlesea Council is under fire for their handling of a stray dog.
Local resident Sally found the dog around the streets of Epping on Saturday night, and called the council to collect it.
She was told the council ranger had finished for the day and if she couldn’t keep it overnight, she should “let it go”.
Tom Elliott said it sounds like a “terrible dereliction of responsibility” on the Council’s part.
The dog has since been reunited with its owner.

Whittlesea Council later responded by saying their process is to ask people to hold onto the dog until a ranger can pick it up, or to take it to a 24 hour vet if they are unable to.
A spokesperson said they have reviewed the phone calls they received that night, and on none of the calls was anyone advised to just let the dog go.
