Country footy match called off after alleged coward’s punch on the ground

A country football match was called off on Saturday after a player was left convulsing on the ground following an alleged coward’s punch.

The Gippsland Times reports the clash between Boisdale-Briagolong and Wy Yung was abandoned when a Boisdale-Briagolong player was hit from behind.

It took paramedics some 40 minutes to move the player from the ground, so the match was called off.

The injured player has since been released from hospital, with the alleged culprit to face the East Gippsland Football League tribunal this week.
