There’s been a COVID-19 scare at the neonatal intensive care unit at the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital.

A COVID-positive parent visited the neonatal ICU for several hours last Thursday and Friday.

There are now 29 critically ill babies in isolation.

The Herald Sun reports two of the newborns are considered Tier 1 contacts, while another 27 are Tier 2 contacts.

Last week, a number of families were told they needed to isolate in their child’s room at the Royal Children’s Hospital for 14 days after the Kookaburra cancer ward was declared a Tier 1 site.

All parents and carers who visit the Royal Children’s Hospital must receive a negative rapid antigen test before they can enter.
