An infectious diseases physician is urging Australians to remain alert about COVID as the country enters its eighth wave.

Professor at the Australian National University medical school, Professor Peter Collignon, says there appears to be more cases which he considers unusual.

“We had a peak in winter in about June, as at least judged by hospital cases, so far we’re not seeing huge numbers of people coming into hospital,” he told Neil Mitchell.

He also expects cases to become more mild as more waves occur.

“It will be here all the time, the main effects will probably be in winter or spring … it’s mainly a problem for people over the age of 80,” he said.
