Tennis Australia boss Craig Tiley says the introduction of First Nations Day at the Australian Open is about making the event accessible for all Australians.

Ground passes at Melbourne Park on Wednesday will be $10 cheaper for Indigenous Australians.

“We want to provide an opportunity for every Australian to get on the precinct and come to the event,” Tiley said on 3AW Mornings.

Tiley admits officials have been “a little surprised” by just how many international fans have returned to Melbourne for the open this summer following two years of restricted crowds because of COVID shutdowns.

“It’s still a little bit unexpected this year,”
