Word on the Sea: Crew member airlifted from cruise ship

A crew member on board a cruise ship that left Melbourne yesterday has been airlifted to hospital suffering appendicitis.

Tom Elliott received a tip off-air that there was a medical emergency on board the Carnival Legend cruise ship.

In a statement, Carnival Cruises confirmed to 3AW Drive the captain was able to position the ship off the Australian coast to enable the helicopter to land.

The cruise will continue on the way to the South Pacific.
