Cricket legend to mentor young sailing star
Former Australian cricket captain Steve Waugh is one of six sporting legends selected to mentor a new crop of promising young athletes as part of a new program.
Waugh will take 19-year-old Stefan Elliott-Shircore, a promising sailor from Western Australia, under his wing.
While Waugh admitted he didn’t know much about the sport of sailing, he told Neil Mitchell that’s not what the program is about.
“I think mentoring is not so much giving technical advice,” he said on 3AW Mornings.
“It’s more life skills and maybe a road map to success and some shortcuts that I’ve learned along the way that I’ve helped me in my career.”
Nat Cook, Sharon Buchanan, Barton Lynch, Leisel Jones and Luc Longley are the other mentors working with Sporting Australia Hall of Fame.
