Cripps ban overturned: David Schwarz says the AFL was ‘duty bound’ to appeal

The AFL has confirmed it won’t appeal the decision to overturn the two-game ban handed to Patrick Cripps.

It comes after Melbourne champion David ‘The Ox’ Schwarz said the league was “duty bound” to do so.

The Carlton captain was cleared on Thursday night after a marathon 4.5 hour hearing.

AFL appeals board chairman Murray Kellman said the initial tribunal decision was unreasonable because both Cripps and the player he collided with, Brisbane’s Callum Ah Chee, were contesting for the ball at the time of the collision.

“The Ox” said with concussion at the forefront of discussion, the AFL needed to take a stand.
