A couple of crooks pursued down a dead-end road in Epping yesterday with the help of the police air wing hugged each other before giving themselves up.

The pair were being followed by a patrol car and the police chopper when they got out of the car and started running through nearby paddocks.

But they quickly realised they had nowhere to go.

Leading Senior Constable Jim Stafford, who was in the chopper at the time, told 3AW Breakfast when they realised their conundrum, they stopped in their tracks.

‘They looked at us, looked at the police approaching, gave each other a hug and then sat down so we continued in orbit around them while the police walked up and made the arrest,’ he said.
