Customers urged to be thrifty as supermarkets start Christmas price-gouging

Jacqui Felgate

Shoppers are being urged to be thrifty as the price of food increases with Christmas just a few weeks away.

President of the Victorian Farmers Federation, Emma Germano, says while food deflation is starting to be seen, Christmas will always result in higher prices.

“Obviously there’s the opportunity for price-gouging, but there’s also a real run on demand and prices go up,” she told Tom Elliott.
